Govt. will lose 2/3 majority whatever happens - Wimal

News

The No-Confidence Motion has already shaken the Government to the core, Joint Opposition (JO) MP and Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) Leader Wimal Weerawansa told Parliament.

Speaking during a heated atmosphere in Parliament where he was often interrupted by Government MPs, Mr Weerawansa claimed that the Government was sure to lose its 2/3 majority in Parliament whichever way the vote in the No-Confidence Motion against the PM went.

He said many Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs would vote in support of the NCM and pointed out that once 22 SLFP MPs or more leave the current Government after voting in support of the Motion, the Government would lose its 2/3 majority and it would be the end of the Government's plans to "bury democracy" in the country.

Mr Weerawansa also alleged that large sums of money had been paid to some Government MPs to secure their support to vote against the Motion.

Even if the PM managed to emerge victorious after the NCM vote, the JO was happy to see that the Motion had created clear splits within the ranks of the UNP, SLFP, TNA, SLMC and other parties allied to the Government.

He challenged the Government to hold a General Election.
