Students who were recently admitted to Grade One have not received their uniform vouchers as of yet, Chairman of the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) Joseph Stalin said.
Issuing a press release he claimed that these uniform vouchers have not been distributed as of yet although the new academic term for Grade One students had already commenced on January 17.
"This is an attempt to disrupt the distribution of uniform vouchers which were haphazardly issued as a replacement to free uniforms" Mr. Stalin said.
He also said that it is regrettable to witness that over 320,000 students who are admitted to Grade One annually have not received their vouchers as of yet.
"This problem could have been prevented if uniforms were distrivuted instead of vouchers" the CTU Chairman opined.
He signed off by claiming that the Education Ministry has not taken any measures to resolve this issue.
