Irrigation minister Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa said that Uma Oya project has to completed in order to solve the issue of water leaking into the tunnel.
He said that in order to resolve the issue of ground water reduction they have to continue tunnelling and stop water further from seeping before much damage takes place.
“ This can lead to cracks of the ground, reduce of water levels and can finally lead to landslides if we allow more water to seep into the tunnel” he said.
He added therefore they has to use both local and foreign methods to refill the water table artificially.
Mr Zoysa also explained that the president have planned to bring down a team of experts from Germany and Norway and also request a high- teach grouting machine “ Rock Mass Grouting Machine” from Norway.
“Even a rail track extending from England to France is built under the sea using the same type of machine.” he said.
He explained that the issues faced when tunneling is normal situation, construction of Samanala wewa project and Kotmalle reservoir similar issues had taken place but the government intervened at solve the issues.
