A hailstorm was experienced in and around certain parts of Welikanda ending a six-month drought in the Polonnaruwa district, area residents said today (Jul 9).
According to the residents, hailstorms had been witnessed in the Magul pokuna, Singhapura, and other surrounding areas along with heavy showers.
Farmers in the Polonnaruwa district had been badly hit by the drought while residents too faced severe hardships due to the lack of proper drinking water.
