Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando has been granted bail after appealing his five-year prison sentence over the toy pistol' case for threatening a group of Parliamentarians in 2014.
The Hambantota High Court today (Oct 23) ordered the suspect to be released on a cash bail of Rs 100,000 and a surety bail of Rs 500,000.
Fernando, along with four others had been accused of threatening the parliamentarians by brandishing a pistol when they had engaged in an inspection tour at the Hambantota Port.
However, the Hambantota High Court previously acquitted three suspects over the case and sentenced two accused persons including the Mayor for five years in prison.
