Minister of Sports, Telecommunications and Foreign Employment Harin Fernando has said he would resign from his position to respect "the people's mandate".
In his Twitter handle Fernando, said he would also resign from all positions he holds in the United National Party (UNP).
"I take this opportunity to thank every one who supported me in my tenure, hope good work done will be continued," the minister said in his tweet.
His resignation comes in the wake of UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa's decision to resign from his position, after he admitted defeat at the presidential election.
