Former Parliamentarian Harsha de Silva today resigned from the Treasurer post of the United National Party (UNP) in order to contest under Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by Sajith Premadasa. He said he met UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today and informed his decision even though the party leader requested him not to do so.
“This morning I personally met @RW_UNP at @officialunp headquarters n informed him of my decision to contest under the SJB w @sajithpremadasa. I also resigned from my position of Treasurer of the UNP.” Mr de Silva tweeted shortly after he resigned from the UNP post.
