A hartal currently underway in North and East today crippled the normalcy and civil administration completely.
The campaign was called by relatives of disappeared persons was staged in North and eastern provinces demanding that immediate steps to be taken disclose information of the missing persons. Earlier political parties, Tamil, Muslim civil society organizations and trade unions urged public to join today’s protest.
The relatives of disappeared who have been on roads for more than two months demanding answers from government have alleged that the government has failed to provide them substantial solutions or track their missing persons.
The political parties including Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC),Tamil National Peoples’ front (TNPF) and Tamil Peoples’ Council (TPC) extended support for the hartal.
