The normalcy in the Northern and Eastern provinces were crippled as a hartal launched today demanding the release of detainees held under the terrorism charges for a long time without prosecution.
The strike was called on by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA ) and Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) demanding a immediate release followed by the general amnesty by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The trade unions, teachers union across the North and East extended their full support for the strike. Daily life of the public is totally disrupted with limited access to the public transport too.
