The hearing of the petition challenging Mahinda Rajapaksa's appointment as Prime Minister and the new Cabinet has been postponed to January and will be heard from Jan 16- 18 , 2019.
This was announced when the case was taken up for hearing before the Appeal Court today (Dec 12).
Today, the respondents were expected to show cause as to why they were holding office. This was following an order issued by Appeal Court President, Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Arjuna Obeysekera.
During today's hearing, the lawyers representing former President Rajapaksa had requested for the case to be dismissed since a full brief of the notice were not sent to the respondents.
However, the request was turned down as court cited that notices were given to all parties.
