The Supreme Court today (Jul 29) announced that further hearing of witness statements in a case filed against State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, will take place tomorrow.
A three-member judge bench which is hearing the case, postponed sittings until tomorrow, stating that some members of the judge bench were attending hearings of other cases.
Ramanayake has been accused of making defamatory statements against the judiciary during a press conference on August 21 last year.
The Attorney General (AG) had submitted a list of 14 persons naming them as witnesses in the case. The AG also said that the remarks made by Mr. Ramanayake were cleary derogatory towards the judiciary.
Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thera and R.Sunil Perera, a civil rights activist, had filed a petition against the State Minister at the Supreme Court.
