Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds has affected normalcy in the upcountry area causing damages to houses and property, officials said.
Nuwara Eliya District Secretary M.P.R. Pushpakumara said at least 400 people have been affected in the district alone.
Among the other areas affected are Maskeliya, Hatton, Thalawakele and Kotagala.
Affected persons are being accommodated in schools and cooked meals are being provided to them.
Sluice gates of Upper Kotmale, Kotmale, Maskeliya and Lakshapana have been opened, preventing flooding.
