The Meteorological Department has forecasted showers and thundershowers and also predicted an increase in wind speeds across several areas in the country today (Aug 24).
According to the Department's forecast, showers and thundershowers will occur in the Western, Central, Southern, Northern and North-Western Provinces.
The Amapara and Batticaloa districts will experience heavy showers after 2 pm while the Sabaragamuwa province is expected to receive heavy falls more than 100mm.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has also predicted that wind speeds in the sea areas around the country would exceed 50 kmph in addition to temporary strong gusty winds between 70 and 80 kmph along with rough seas.
Wind speeds between the seas from Hambantota to Pottuvil, and Puttalam to Trincomalee could range between 60 - 70 kmph and upto 60 kmph.
