Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) seized 1.4 kilograms of heroin from a plane that arrived from Dubai this morning.
The value of the seized stock of drugs is estimated to be about Rs.14 million.
The drugs were found in four parcels while hidden inside a lavatory of the aircraft. The parcels were found by cabin crew who were checking the aircraft after the passengers disembarked. They had promptly alerted airport authorities.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with the heroin haul and investigations are continuing.
