Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has said that it is mandatory that three elections be held within the next two years.
Mr. Deshapriya made this remarks while addressing the media following an event at the Hambantota District Secretariat yesterday (Dec 13).
He further noted that the functioning of the cabinet does not play a role in deciding whether the polls can be held or not.
Chairman of the Elections Commission said that he would seek the opinion of the Supreme Court in the future if the Cabinet and Parliament do no take the necessary steps to hold PC elections.
