Hundreds of Navy, Coast Guard and Army personnel have been deployed to assist the employees of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in the cleanup operation that is taking place under the purview of the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA).
According to the government news portal, clean up operations along the coastal area of Dikovita continued for the second day as a leak in a pipeline carrying oil to the Muthurajawela Oil Refinery Complex polluted the beach stretch.
New vessels of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard gifted by the Japanese government, 'Samaraksha' and 'Samudra Raksha' are also being deployed in the clean-up involved in the cleanup operation.
