ICEU files complaint at COPE against Rs 27.2 m SriLankan loss

News

The Inter-Company Employees’ Union (ICEU) of SriLankan Airlines has filed a complaint with the Parliament’s Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) regarding the loss of Rs 27.2 million incurred by SriLankan Airlines.

The complaint, handed over to COPE Chairman Sunil Handunnetti, alleged that the national air carrier had faced these losses as a result of procuring expired materials and equipment to the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Division.

The trade union had also complained that attempts are being made to introduce new positions in the management of SriLankan Airlines, contributing to the piling debt of the national air carrier.

It also claimed that the senior management has been displaying a biased attitude towards certain trade unions, acting in violation of the Trade Unions Ordinance.

The joint trade union pointed out that the air carrier had faced losses due to poor decision making such as shifting its office from Colombo to Katunayake and then again to Colombo.

Complaints against state or semi-government institutions can be filed with the COPE, a press release from the Parliament's Department of  Communication read.
