IGP Pujith Jayasundara has issued instructions to enforce the law against buses which use loud horns.
These instructions were issued during a meeting which was held with Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando yesterday (Apr 05). Both short and long term plans to control noise pollution were discussed at the meeting.
During the meeting, the Motor Traffic Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said all police divisions will be instructed to enforce the law on vehicles with horns which produce sound at more than the 150 decible sound range.
Further, talks at the meeting also revolved around declaring a 'Silent Day' with the cooperation of school students, bus drivers and passengers.
Private Bus Owners Associations' and other related institutions which were present at the meeting had arrived at an agreement to implement these laws.
Representatives of 22 institutions including the Sri Lanka Customs, Central Environmental Authority, Road Passenger Transport Authority and the National Transport Commission were present at the meeting.
