The Immigration and Emigration Controller and Headquarter Inspector of Mirihana Police were yesterday noticed to appear in Court on May 16 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate. This was to show cause as to how the first suspect arrested in connection with the investigations into a kidney racket had escaped from the Mirihana detention camp.
Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) OIC, Nevil Silva informed Court that the Mirihana detention camp was operating under the supervision of Immigration and Emigration Controller with the protection of Mirihana Police.
Prison authorities on May 18 informed Court that the first suspect arrested in connection with the investigations into a kidney racket had escaped from the detention camp.
The Court further issued an order directing the Director of General of Health Services to submit a report in Court regarding the kidney surgeries said to have taken place between 2014 to 2015 at leading private hospitals in Sri Lanka.
The seven Indians allegedly involved in a kidney racket involving Indians and Sri Lankans were ordered to be further remanded till May 16.
