The Department of Immigration and Emigration has decided to extend the validity period of all types of visas issued to foreign nationals by another month, a senior official at the department stated.
There are some 5000 foreign nationals currently in the country on tourist visas, according to the department. Most of them are stuck in Sri Lanka as the borders of their own countries are closed on account of COVID-19, the official added. The department has been periodically extending their visas since March.
There are also around 15, 000 foreign nationals in the country who hold other types of visas, including temporary residents and those here on work visas. The Immigration Department will extend the validity period of those visas as well, the official added.
