The Immigration Department is planning to set-up an integrated security management unit which connects with other important security bodies, Controller General Pasan Rathnayake said.
The objective of this project is to tighten security of arrivals at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), he explained.
Mr Rathnayake noted that the Customs Department, CID, tri-forces, State Intelligency Service, and Civil Aviation Authority would be granted limited access to the Immigration Department’s database to monitor the arrival of individuals into the country.
The United Nations too is expected to assist in the implementation of this project, he said adding that the project is expected to be introduced by December.
