The Sri Lanka Immigration & Emigration Officers' Association says that it will launch a work-to-rule campaign from midnight today (17) over the failure by authorities to resolve several pressing demands.
The campaign will cover all airports and seaports in the country, the association said in a press release.
As a prelude to the trade union action, officers will hold a silent 'banner protest' at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) premises at 12 noon today.
If a work-to-rule campaign does proceed, passengers can expect delays at immigration counters at BIA.
The TU action is launch over three major demands The establishment of a Service Minute for the Immigration and Emigration Service, the reinstatement of the Departmental Prosecution Unit and the attachment of Immigration and Emigration officers to Missions abroad.
The union says that these issues have remained unresolved for two decades.
