A team of specialist doctors at the Health Ministry yesterday (Feb 19) confirmed that imported milk powder is of a very high standard since scientific tests have so far not revealed any sign of adulteration.
Samples of imported milk powder are subjected to a test at the Customs Department and are later sent to the Analaysts Department, the doctors said adding that a standards certificate is also sent to the Sri Lankan authorities by countries from which the milk powder is being imported.
These remarks were made at a press briefing that was held under the patronage of Health Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne yesterday (Feb 19).
Addressing the briefing Minister Senaratne said that the problem realting to milk powder is based on scientific grounds and not a political issue.
He added that the President had not discussed regarding powdered milk at last weeks cabinet meeting.
