The 72nd Independence Day ceremony commenced at Independence Square in Colombo a short while ago. The ceremony is presided over by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem by a group of school students.
The ceremony will also consist of a military parade featuring 315 officers and 5673 other ranks as well as 154 military vehicles.
