A special commemoration ceremony was held yesterday (Oct 14) at the Headquarters of the Gajaba Regiment to honour its soldiers who lost their lives during the war.
The Army Headquarters said that 171 officers and 4079 other ranking military personnel of the Gajaba Regiment lost their lives in action during the war.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, who is the Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment attended the event along with other high ranking military personnel.
The families of the fallen personnel payed floral tributes during the commemoration. A religious ceremony was also held to honour the fallen heroes at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura.
