Sri Lankan troops today guarded mosques ahead of Friday prayers and stepped up security amidst a state of emergency in the country.
The 12-hour police curfew imposed in the Kandy administrative district at 6pm yesterday was lifted at 6am this morning.
While a heavy presence of security forces personnel and police is visible in the district, there have been no major incidents and the area remains calm, police stated.
