In pictures: Chinese vessel arrives in Colombo to join Navy fleet

The P 625 vessel taken over from China in a bid to enhance the operations of the Sri Lanka Navy arrived at the Colombo Port today (Jul 8).

Several officials including the Navy Commander and the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka were present to welcome the ship.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal de Silva along with senior officer conducted an inspection on the ship and supervised its functional and operational capabilities.

This ship, an Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel, which had built had been built in 1994, is 112 metres long and 12.4 in width and has a capacity of 2,300 tons. A crew of 18 officers and 92 sailors will perform duties in the ship.

According to the Navy, the vessel will be used for patrol and surveillance missions in Sri Lankan waters while also being utilised in search and rescue operations.
