In pictures : New Army Commander assumes office
Major General Shavendra Silva who was appointed as the 23rd Army Commander assumed office today (Aug 23).
A special event had been organised at the Army Headquarters to mark the occassion.
He replaces General Mahesh Senanayake who was appointed to the post in 2017 before his service term ended last week.
