A programme to use drones and GPS technology for agriculture for the first time in Sri Lanka was inaugurated this morning (15) at the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) training centre at Eraminiyaya in Angunukolapelessa.
As part of the programme, a drone was used to plant agricultural seeds on farmland at the centre.
The programme is part of a wider project by the NYSC to encourage young people to engage in farming using new technology, as the world faces the prospect of crippling food shortages owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been initiated on a concept of NYSC Director General / Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe.
