In pictures: Shangri La hotel opening marred by firework mishap

An accidental fire broke out at the opening of the Shangri La - Hambantota hotel yesterday where President Maithripala Sirisena was the chief guest. The President however, was unhurt. 

The incident occurred when some sparks from the fireworks display that took place following the opening ceremony fell onto the thatched roof of a hut that had been built in the hotel's garden. 

The fire was eventually doused by the fire brigade.
