Students from all communities took part in a special event held to mark the Deepawali festival at the Vivekananda College in Batticaloa this week.
The event was organised by the Batticaloa (West) Zonal Education office with the assistance of the National Integration & Reconciliation Ministry, under a programme to celebrate all cultures.
Students of the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and Islamic faiths attended the event and also took part in a drama on the Deepawali festival, while engaging in other activities.
Dr S. Mahendranathan, a senior lecturer at the South Eastern university graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
