A Sunday Times team toured the Kalutara district yesterday during the 2020 parliamentary election to see how polling was taking place in the midst of COVID-19 health guidelines.
We observed keen interest among voters. Voters were wearing masks, while polling centres had hand washing facilities and hand sanitizers were also available.
There were however, election violations in the form of small cardboard strips printed with the name, party symbol and preference numbers of candidates scattered on the way to polling centres - a common tactic employed by candidates at recent elections.
The following images are from polling centres at Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya, Beruwala Polkotuwa Primary College and Walathara, Beruwala.
