An independent commission is to be set-up to evaluate policies, and government projects, the Parliament's Department of Communication said.
The commission would be tasked with providing recommendations on policies approved by the Parliament, and government projects implemented using budgetary allocations and public funds.
Issuing a statement, the Department noted that a Sectoral Oversight Committee (SOC) has been appointed to study the formation of the commission, and to prepare a Bill to empower the body.
SOC Chairman Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri said that 80 percent of the work in drafting the Bill has been completed and that it would be put forward for cabinet approval.
Kumarasiri, was quoted as saying that the proposed act would empower the commission to "obtain and evaluate relevant information from any institution,".
