Three people who tried to smuggle 1000 kilograms of turmeric pieces from Tamilnadu, India to Mannar via sea have been arrested on Saturday (12) by the Indian Coast Guard officials.
The suspects had been transporting the stock in a lorry in the Mandapam area in Tamilnadu towards the beach when they were arrested.
The Indian officials said the suspects had planned to capitalise on the high price of turmeric in Sri Lanka by transporting the stock to the island through the bay of Mannar.
