An Indian Company has won a USD 6 million worth bid to construct a Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Sri Lanka.
Bharat Electronics Limited won the bid after receiving approval of the Cabinet’s Procurement Committee.
The MRCC would be tasked with rescuing distressed fishermen and naval personnel, a cabinet paper submitted by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as Defence Minister read.
The Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, and the Merchant Shipping Secretariat will serve as stakeholders in the project.
