A special delegation of the Indian Fishermen’s Organization met President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, May 12, 2015. The discussion focused on the difficulties faced by the Indian Fishermen.
The President who gave a patient hearing to their views told them that any problems could be resolved through discussion. He also stressed that the issue should not be allowed in any way to affect the close and friendly ties between India and Sri Lanka, which have been enjoyed for centuries.
President Maithripala went on to say that, the issue has to be resolved without causing injustice to both countries and added that he has issued the necessary instructions to the officials concerned to continue the discussions without interruption.
The President also told the Indian fishermen’s delegation that he expected the cooperation of the Fishermen Associations of both countries in this regard.
