Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva yesterday refuted Indian media reports that the Palaly Airport would be developed with the assistance of the Airport Authorities of India (AIA).
Mr De Silva was responding to a question raised in Parliament by MP Wimal Weerawangsa yesterday (Sept 18).
He added the airport will be developed in partnership with the Tourism Development Fund and the Civil Aviation Authority. He further said the Higurakgoda, Batticaloa, Koggala, Digana and Trincomalee airports would also be developed as domestic airports to cater to the needs of the people.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
