An Indian national has been apprehended while attempting to smuggle gold worth more than Rs 240,000 at the Bandaranaike International Airport today (Aug 21).
According to customs officials, the suspect had been nabbed with gold biscuits and coins which had been concealed inside a fake bottom of a travelling bag this afternoon.
However, customs spokesman Sunil Jayaratne said the suspect had claimed that the bag had been handed over to him by another Indian national who is believed to have fled the airport.
