Indian Prime Minister Nardendra Modi will address the Sri Lanka Parliament onMarch 13, 2015, the first Indian leader to do so in 36 years.
He will be visiting Parliament on the invitation of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weeerakkody announced to Parliament today.
He said special security arrangements would been put in place during for March 12 and 13 in view of Indian Prime Minister ‘s visit to Parliament including special security arrangements.
All members have been requested by the Speaker to be present when the Indian Premier addresses the House.
The first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru addressed the Lankan Parliament on Oct 23, 196, while Indira Gandhi became the first foreign female leader of a country to address Lankan parliament on April 28, 1973.One time Indian Prime Minister Moraji Desai too addressed the Lankan Parliament on Feb 06, 1979.
