Indictments served on Aluthgamage, ex-Sathosa Chairman over misappropriation case

Indictments have been filed against Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage and another former state officer over a misappropriation case at the second Special High Court today (Jul 26).

The suspects have been accused of misusing Rs 53 million belonging to state-run Sathosa - a retail business, to purchase sports equipment during Aluthgamage’s tenure as Sports Minister in 2014.

It was alleged that 14,000 carom boards, and 11,000 checker game boards during the run-up to the presidential election in 2015 had been purchased

Accordingly, the former Sports Minister, and Nalin Fernando – who served as the Chairman of Sathosa at the time of the fraud, have been named as suspects in the case.

Each of the suspects was released on a cash bail of Rs 100,000 and two surety bails worth Rs 1 million each after being handed over indictments. The case has been fixed for further hearing on August 30.
