Indictments were served on former President's chief-of-staff Kusumdasa Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation Chairman P Dissanayake over a bribery case today (Jul 8).
During today's hearing at the Special High Court, each of the suspects was released on a cash bail of Rs 500,000 and two surety bails of Rs 1 million each.
A travel ban too had been imposed on both suspects. Court ordered the case to be convened on July 22 to determine whether the accused had received the documents pertaining to the case.
The former state officials have been accused of soliciting a Rs 20 million bribe to assist businessmen in acquiring some assets of the Kantale Sugar factory.
The Bribery Commission had filed charges under 24 counts against the suspects.
