A fact finding inquiry has been launched against an army officer who was involved in a shooting incident in Akmeemana, Galle yesterday (Jul 4), Army Spokesman Brigardier Sumith Atapattu said.
The army officer had opened fire at an individual who had attempted to forcefully enter a school in Akmeemana last afternoon and had allegedly reached for the weapon of an officer while being searched.
The victim had subsequently passed away after being submitted to the Karapitiya hospital following the shooting.
According to the Army, preliminary inquiries have shown that the army officer has not been found guilty over the incident.
However, a three-member committee of high ranking army officials attached to the regiment of the army officer will launch another inquiry into the incident.
This committee is expected to submit its findings within a week, the Army Spokesman told Times Online.
