The INTERPOL has rejected an appeal filed by former central bank governor Arjuna Mahendran against his imminent arrest over the infamous bond scam, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said.
Mahendran, in his appeal had accused the CID of filing false charges that led to an INTERPOL arrest warrant being issued against him, CID Director Shani Abeysekara told a news briefing yesterday (Aug 8).
The INTERPOL had issued a red notice since the accused had been absconding arrest in Sigapore.
Mr Abeysekara added that the INTERPOL had rejected the appeal after considering the reasons behind issuing the red notice and the relevant documentation on the suspect.
The former Central bank governor is a wanted chief suspect in the central bank bond scam which caused millions of losses due to the illegal issuance of treasury bonds.
