Iranian woman arrested with cash, jewelry worth Rs.12.5 million

An Iranian woman who attempted to smuggle out foreign currency and jewelry valued at Rs.12.5 million was taken into custody by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night. 

According to Customs Media Spokesman, Dharmasena Kahandawa, foreign currency valued at Rs.11 million and 300 grams of jewelry valued at Rs.1.5 million were found from the woman's possession. She was about to board a flight to Doha when she was taken into custody. 

US Dollars, Euros, Canadian Dollars, Iran Riyals, Saudi and Oman Riyals, Indian Rupees and UAE Dhirams were among the foreign currencies that were found in the suspect's possession. Further investigations are ongoing.
