Issues of Samurdhi managers to be resolved

Following a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday, All Island Samurdhi Managers’ Association was assured that shortcomings with regard to Samurdhi programme will be resolved in near future.

The discussion between the President and the office bearers of the Association the Presidential Secretariat focused on the vocational issues faced by Samurdhi Managers.

They stated that the former dictatorial rule did not appreciate the Samurdhi Movement which was the best and a leading financial institute in the country. The association complained that the former government let down the Samurdhi program and the workers, and also robbed the money in billions.

The Samurdhi Managers requested the President’s attention to enhance the Samurdhi program to an institute which will benefit the country.

The association drew the President’s attention on the issues of delays in recommending the recruitments and promotions, the current situation and issues in the Divi Neguma Development Department, adopted by the Divi Neguma Charter of number 03, 2013.

“Though the Divi Neguma Department has been established three years ago, no worker has received the pension so far”, they pointed out. The President assured that he would take relevant actions through the discussions with relevant bodies.

Speaking on the trade unions, the President said that the main objective of a trade union should not be to create problems, but to settle the issues and go forward.

The President of the Sri Lanka Samurdhi Managers’ Association P. K. Ranugge, Co-Secretaries; Dissanayake Liyanage and S. D. S. Priyadarshanie were among those participated in this event.
