Jaffna District MP Douglas Devananda today made a request in Parliament from the government to preserve the tomb of King Elara.
In a special statement in Parliament, the EPDP leader said that that history has been interpreted in a way to give the impression that the Dutugemunu-Elara war was a communal conflict when in reality it was a battle for the seat of the Anuradhapura Kingdom.
“Some claim that it was a communal conflict when it was in actuality a battle for control of the Anuradhapura Kingdom. King Dutugemunu never treated Elara as his enemy and ordered people to respect him whenever they passed his tomb,” MP Devananda said.
He said it would be disrespect to King Dutugemunu if the Government failed to preserve the tomb of Elara
