Jayantha Dhanapala to meet UN Human Rights Chief
Senior Presidential Adviser on Foreign Relations, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, has left for Geneva yesterday to meet the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid Ra'ad Zeid Al-Hussein, the government news portal reported.
Dhanapala as special envoy of President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to discuss the UN Human Rights Council's investigation into alleged serious violations of human rights by both parties in Sri Lanka with the High Commissioner.
The former UN Under Secretary General is expected to brief the High Commissioner on the progress Sri Lanka has made in addressing the human rights violations after the 28th session of UNHRC in March 2014, the report said.
