Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has been unanimously appointed as the new Chief Justice by the Constitutional Council which convened under the chairmanship of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya this morning.
Further, Deputy General Chulantha Wickramaratne was appointed as the Auditor General by the CC during the meeting at the parliamentary complex.
These names were put forward before the CC by President Maithripala Sirisena following which approval was granted.
Measures will be taken to send the list of approved appointments to President Maithripala Sirisena in due course, the Speaker's Office said.
