Jewellery worth Rs 200,000 which was offered to Hindu God Amman has been stolen from the Sri Muthumariamman Kovil in the Dimbula-Pattana police division earlier today (Feb 14).
The burglary is suspected to have been carried out by a group who had broken through the main entrance of the Kovil.
Dimbulla-Pattana police who had received the complaint on the theft had launched an investigation along with the assistance of the Nuwara Eliya Police Organised Crimes Prevention Unit.
However, so far no suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft.
The gold was offered to the God during a special Kumbhabhishekham ritual ceremony that had taken place in the Kovil on April 20 last year.
