JNP MPs withdraw from Constitutional Assembly
The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP), a coalition partner of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) today handed over a letter to the Speaker stating that all five of its MPs representing the party in Parliament were withdrawing from the Constitutional Assembly.
The letter was handed over to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya by JNP Leader and MP Wimal Weerawansa.
A framework resolution adopted on March 9, 2016 created the Constituional Assembly whereby all 225 Members of Parliament sit as a committee for the purpose of drafting a new Constitution.
